After his first year of law school, Doug worked as a law clerk at a Carbondale, Illinois, law firm where he continued to work as an associate attorney after he graduated from law school. He tried his first case to a jury during the second year he was licensed to practice law and has since tried several cases before a jury and judge. In 2001, Doug started his own general practice law firm in Carbondale where he eventually concentrated on litigation mostly in the areas of plaintiff's personal injury and workers' compensation. He worked at Gill Law Firm until 2007, at which time he and two other attorneys formed Southern Illinois Law Center, LLC. In 2014, Doug associated himself with R Courtney Hughes at Hughes Law Firm and continues to concentrate his practice in the areas of personal injury litigation and Worker's Compensation.
Doug is a current member and past President of the Jackson County Bar Association. He is also a currently a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, A.A.J., Illinois Trial Lawyer's Association and is the Vice President and a Master in the Southern Illinois Inn of Court. Doug is licensed to practice in the state courts of Illinois, the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He is active in his community and his church. Doug served as a board member and secretary of Twin Lakes Homeowners Association where he resides in Carterville, Illinois. He has served as a Jackson County election judge and has volunteere to judge several moot court competitions.
